omg new year already??

been really busy recently with all the renovation works going on at home and its finally complete yesterday. renovated 4 areas, the shoe cabinents, the TV console, the display cabinet in the dinning area and my entire room. felt a bit nostalgic when the ppl move my older furnitures out cos i have used that set since i was a kid... oh well, 旧的不去,新的不来。节哀顺便吧。。

so have somewhat a new house. with all the new design and new furniture. but its a new home or new house that i want? hmm....

the new room im using now is that of the zen concept that plays arnd with 2 main colours of black/dark walnut brown and white, actually is one super dark and one white or near white colour. just need to wait for the curtain guy to come fix the new roller blinds and my new room is done.

during this period, dad and mom went to chiangmai for holiday, so i was more or less in charge of everything at home cos my 2 other older sis are practically... uh.. useless? (cant think of better word.. i know its mean..) supervised the carpenter at work, cleaned the new furniture, washed the entire kitchen... did alot of washing la, something like early spring cleaning.. and the wheather has been really good so i did lots of undone laundry too. very satisfying.

i was worried i couldnt get home in time to blog, msn whatever b4 the new yr. i was at a huge family gathering for BBQ and when we were transported back by my uncle, we couldnt enter the hse.. cos i kept the wooden door's key that was beside the shoerack last time inside the hse for fear that it will go missing when the carpenters do their work. so we could open the metal gate but not the wooden door -_-".. luckily dad and mum coming back from chiangmai today and they arrived 15 min after we are trapped outside and opened the door for us. lucky!

abt 20 min more to the new year. last day of 2006. last yr in sec sch ... official step down date.. sigh... so much left uncompleted, but shld i continue on to complete them? the section is obviously not ready.. everytime i say im not going to bother abt them or say im washing my hands off, im just lying to myself, cos i know i just cant do it. and i have no idea why they are liddat, sometimes i blame myself, pampering them too much. miss them? good ridance? hate them? love them? beats me.. of course, they as individuals are nice ppl. but they cant seem to work as a grp. but i do see improvements in individuals, liang jun is learning to take more responsibilities, sec1s are learning etc.. and it was really heartening to receive leslie's msg ytd, asking me to send him an email of all the things that they shld take note of when we are gone, what they shld do, what shld be done. and he claimed that he felt he has been rather irresponsible and know little abt the section and hope to make some changes. obviously he has done some soul searching, which was something i always hope they will do every now and then. i think i will really open up the SL-ship to all the sec4s-and3s to be. i think there are more ppl who have more potential than the tentative one.

new year is coming and the new year shall indicate a supposed increased in maturity for everyone in the section. they shall learn to take over the section. they shall know how to haddle things independently but yet shall know how to work as a team.

but these are all 'shalls'.

new year. new section. hopefully.

happy new year all.

Scherzando

i dunno, everyone says its a success, but i didnt really feel so. it was fun, no doubt, but i wouldnt say its called a success.

first of all, tickets logistics totally screwed up, as they claimed that there was a situation whereby theres more than a full house. ridiculous.

second, we did not utilise the time given to us b4 the concert itself. 1 hr spent on tunning by mr leng b4 flower fantasy. blame who, who knows? hence we did not manage to run thru jap graf and animation medley. screwed.

third, pracs for scherzando were almost total flops, at least to say for the section. for the entire 2 mths or so, there has only been 1 or 2 full attendences. and the next full attendence is the concert day itself. crap.

forth, the moving of the instrus were, as usual, disappointingly, done mostly by the seniors. most of the members ended off the day happily. i chose to scold the section at the end of the day. too bad it didnt have a happy ending, whos to blame? yes, pls blame the seniors, like what you ppl love to do sometimes. no initiative as usual. loading up i wasnt as pissed off. but when we were unloading the instrus back to sch, i was really boiling already. too bad it was raining, we have to be more careful and have to get wet. but the pampered section would rather laze arnd doing nothing. great disappointment on the sec 3s, not the first time im saying this. totally no initiative. no sense of urgency, dont bother to check out whats to be done and just go on with THEIR OWN LIVES. upon reaching wilson JUST HAVE TO go change instead of moving the instruments, giving the excuse that his pants is too tight. fine, but he chose to take a long time to change. JH was all wet from the rain. my tie got stained and i hurt my back. the seniors got all these while moving and we didnt bother abt our own needs and instead took care of the greater interest of moving the instrus. no doubt there were individuals who are hardworking and bothered enough, but this is a teamwork thing. 1 for all, all for 1.

i rounded off the scolding session asking wilson if he deserves the pair of metal sticks that is passed down from one generation of SL to the next. obviously he couldnt give me an answer. i decided to keep the stick until he comes to me and tell me he is ready. but judging from the prac after scherzando on thurs, it seems that my words fell on deaf ears. i think im going to change my statement and let anyone who from the current sec 2 to sec 3 who are ready to take on the section possess the pair of authoritative sticks. in other words, i dont want a useless SL. i dont care abt hierachy or whatever, i dont care if a current sec 2 becomes SL instead of the current sec3. i want ppl who can work and who will work. i will not choose an SL from the sec 3s just becos of the hierachy of levels and generation. i choose ppl who can work. and thats why i have never regconised wilson as the SL. and to think that i stop off at an NTUC while lugging 2 snare drum stands in the rain from CCAB to get the section chocolates for xmas, deserve it? i think not.

and i kept asking the girls from NY and the college ppl and ppl from other sections NOT TO move the instrus for them and just stand at the side and watch. its THEIR instrus and they are not putting in the effort. ppl from other sections, guest players, college players are putting in effort to move OUR instruments, but they are not as bothered. when i told them not to move, the girls and college ppl felt guilty, and said that they used the instrus as well and so they have the responsibility to move. i dunno if theres the same volume of guilt in them having other ppl to move for them. in fact every time i want to give the section a dressing down, ai wen the perc SL from college would keep persuading me not to. she gave them some instructions that clashes with mine and when she realises that she kept persuading me not to scold them and would take the blame and claim its her fault. she kept telling me not to scold them and take easy on them. i just dont understand why are other ppl so bothered abt them, their things, while they themselves are not.

i have been anticipating 31 Dec for official step down, hopping they will be ready by then to take over. but it doesnt seems so. im going to hold onto the pair of sticks until someone reliable enough comes to pick it up.

and i think that will take some time.

scherzando, a success? think about it.

the IMPENDING Scherzando!

ok its like 1.46am nowon 26th Dec 2006 and im here, still in front of my exhausted laptop blogging. in less than a few hours time, i have to go to school to get prepared for scherzando and im still wide awake here, just came out from bathe.

running through my mind all the things that have to be done b4 the concert.
1) get snare stands from ccab
2) get snare stands from nygh
3) finalise HSM with section and mr lim
4) last minute practise for jap graf
5) bring the anvil
6) remind leslie to bring the whistles
7) get cloth from ai wen
8) bring nail clipper (in case liang jun didnt trim his nails over the weekend)
9) bring the timpani file back to school
10) bring my own pairs of sticks
11) especially the metal one
12) remind the section abt concert ettique
13) get belt from someone
14) polish my shoe b4 going out
15) spike my hair a little
16) remind keith to use the approperiate sticks for the instrus
17) remind glendon not to put his cymbals down so quickly
18) remind leslie not to do random stuff outta nowhere
19) remind bangky not to shake his head in a random and unexplainable manner
20) remind 041 to be in the sane state of his mind (hmm...)
21) remind wilson to even turn up (omg)
22) make sure liang jun has his finger nails trimed
23) make sure the zys remain calm
24) make sure sean knows what he is doing when he is in front of the chimes
25) make sure jie han has his fill b4 performing
26) remind all bass drumers to hit the correct spot, and that is actually just rick
27) eat heavy breakfast? (optional)

and to save trouble later, i was learning how to tie a tie (no pun intended) online so as to prevent the hassle of everyone crowding arnd some1 who knows how to tie a tie. and apparently i just found out that Jericho is right after HSM, which leave us totally NO TIME to tie up. hmm need to talk to mr lim tmr.

good luck, and merry xmas i suppose?
scherzando.

nostalgia....

got back from class chalet, but the main topic in the post shall not be anything abt the class chalet and chalets all are more or less the same one. but i discovered that sleeping between yicheng and minzhe is the same as being in between a steep intelligence gradient.

rui an has painstakenly compiled alot of photos and vids that he made previously into CDs and passed to everyone during the chalet. it contains alot of the fond memories of the 4 years, full of nostalgia... thanks loads rui an.

1L 2L 3K 4K. my secondary school story, my secondary school life.

there are alot of memorable quotes in the CDs that i wish to mention:

"青春因梦想而更加精彩,梦想因行动而更加生动。" -谢丽香老师
xie lao shi has been one of the most inspiring teachers that appeared in my life. she was my sec3 chinese tcher. no doubt she makes me feel nervous and jittery and stressed as she loves to call random ppl to answer questions, but her words are always so inspiring and thought-provoking. though she was just a tcher of mine for one yr, she will be one of the tchers that i have the fondest memory of. 一日为师,终身为父。

and of course rui an ended the montage with a joke to make ppl who are crying feel better:
"if you dont mean what you say and dont say what you mean, then dont say anything!"-王婉夷
well of course this is quite true la.. but wangwy said it at one of the most inappropriate time and accent that makes it a joke ever since chinese new year this yr.

hack, heck, HECK

hack:
i have successfully coughed for more than a month now. and its so bad now that not only is the throat sore, everytime i cough my abdominal region will hurt like crap. and i bought a pack of strepsils and i ate 12 in one day. and i just started self-medicating, finally awoken from the stubborn believe that i will recover soon by drinking more water and eating those herbal jelly stuff.

heck:
i just realise scherzando is like in a weeks time! OMG! and the high school band is still not up to standard. i was just listening to titanic medley and i cringed and coughed, i dare not even look. its so darn scary man. and there is totally no time left and the song and sound quality is not there yet. and there is totally no time for sectionals, not like even if there is sectionals they will turn up anyway, so heck cares. its their concert anyway. they are not interested, i shall not be as well. i still have yet to see the anvil, siren whistle and refree whistle and cymbal polish. and the excuse given by the 'SL' is that there is no more funds in band fund. and so he decides to sit there and wait for $ to appear, no initiative. excellent. make my day ppl. piss me off and i let the juniors be SL. or die trying to make 041 stay back 1 year. i choose the latter =)

HECK:
JC ppl took the files with them. HOW TO PRACTISE JAP GRAF LIDDAT??
Jericho fudging off beats driving me crazy
CONCERT IN ONE WEEKS TIME
Class chalet logistic organization!!!
laptop not stable!!!
my designer working on tight schedule!
Section playing sucks. No proper concert behavior, keith even asked me if they will provide chairs for the perc section during the concert itself. pure ignorance? i do hope so.
HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL simi gimmick thingy wigit, oh HECK

hack hack hack.... *pain*

void decks

Chinese uses them for funerals. Malays use them for wedding, different culture eh?

Mum brought us to a Malay wedding today. its supposed to be some immediate relative of her collegue whos getting married. and of course, its at a void deck. its the 1st Malay wedding i ever gone to, so its a refreshing experience.

A few observations:
1. the staff (waiters of the food delivery company) are dressed in purple
2. the father and mother of both sides are to sit in a row in the front and let relatives and guests to kiss their hand to grant forgiveness while the rest of the guests eat the tables
3. there is no pork, which is a good thing for me
4. Malays are very traditional ppl
5. they provide live, free kara-ok service where anyone can go up to sing anytime. now we know where our singapore idols get their practices from. (but honestly they sang quite and were very spontaneous, though i dont understand a single word)

and yesterday, mum brought us to yet another collegue's gathering. its another malay family's. apparently, this collegue is going to iran, if im not wrong, for the annual muslim mass worship thing. not sure whats the technical term called, but in chinese, its called 朝拜. its a grueling journey to the holy place to cleanse their sins and to ask for forgiveness and to attain wisdom. its really amazing how much such muslim devotees will do. they are really nice ppl. i personally like malays cos they are easy-going and nice. i had a malay neighbour who just moved away, which was really sad. they are very nice, i rmbed how we looked after each other's house when we go over seas, how we give them ang baos during chinese new yr and how they offer us traditional food as well. and they moved away. but i saw them recently along orchard road, at the bus stop, while i was on the bus though-.- i really wished i could say 'hi'..

i wonder what else are void decks for...

omg i didnt realise someone just found the 44th Mersenne Prime!

but then again, its still tentative and the mathematicians are still checking if its correct. the last confirmed Mersenne Prime was the 39th one which has
4,053,946 digits. budden the 43rd Mersenne Prime's (recent) discovery was considered a big event for its the 43rd (<---prime number!) Mersenne Prime! They even created a poster of the number which has 9,152,052 digits. The 44th one has 9,808,358 digits and its value is 2^(32,582,657) -1. (omg 32mil??!!)

Alot of times we complaint about the practicality of study certain fields or topics. but many a times, they are linked to other impt topics or subjects. like for Mersenne Primes, each and every of them are liked to a Perfect Number. the first Perfect Number is the summation of the numbers from 1 to the first Mersenne Prime which is 3. Hence the first Perfect Number is 6 (1+2+3). and the second Perfect Number is the summation of the numbers from 1 to the second Mersenne Prime (7) so its (1+2+...6+7) 28. amazing?

Another interesting one: the Fibonacci Sequence is not just a sequence for fun. the Fibonacci Sequence is queerly related to the Curry's Paradox, whereby triangles which has their diamensions as Fibonacci Numbers, when rearranged, the total area enclosed will become different! amazing!

take a look:

http://www.cut-the-knot.org/Curriculum/Fallacies/CurryParadox.shtml

theres still so much thats not known and not discovered. Isnt maths amazing?

and heres a puzzle:
1
1 1
2 1
1 2 1 1
1 1 1 2 2 1
3 1 2 2 1 1
1 3 1 1 2 2 2 1
1 1 1 3 2 1 3 2 1 1
3 1 1 3 1 2 1 1 1 3 1 2 2 1
whats next?

this or that

would you rather
1) love someone or to be loved?
2) give or receive?
3) hear the hurtful truth or the deceiving white lie?
4) lose a really horrible friend or lose a good friend?
5) cry or put up a brave front?
6) let things be of relative to others or absolute?
7) take the initiative and cause trouble out of it or wait for something to happen and leave the situation to rot?
8) be able to think and know the reality or to be not able to think and enjoy a carefree life?
9) be a jack of all trades or to specialise?
10) change for someone or change someone?

for life's uncertainities, dont study the Heisenberg uncertainty principle or go for some insurance, instead, sleep.

Really.
give, but never give up.

i was just watching those sadistic podcast things on my itunes. and one particular episode ended with the phrase 'give, but never give up!'

it sorta gave my quite some 启发on alot of my problems. just back then i was having a really bad time thinking about how my endless giving without any receiving made me feel really empty inside. be it the section, my relationship with some ppl, my efforts put in my work.. all the give did not yearn anything that i can receive back, or very little only, below expectations.

no doubt we shouldnt work and wait for a reward in return. but such endless giving and not receiving back approperiate returns just made me feel really down back then. now that the issue abated, i dont think so much abt those give and take things, but i just thought this phrase is really meaningful (though it came from happy tree friends...)

give, and give on, if the relationship, project, work is something you treasure, and dont give up. what you want will come to you in time. 人生恶性循环:好有好报,恶有恶报。不是不报,时辰未到。

card games...

todays band prac is almost a total flop for the percs. we were told to report early to do the grease gimmicks, in the end, all the gimmicks are for everyone except perc, then we go to store room to slack lor, and played asshole dai di again lor. after that cher li came in to tell us we have 1hr free period cos leng wants to do ave maria. happiness! so we continued to play. and we played. and we played. from dai di, to uno, to slapjack, to silly card tricks, and to ai wen's pathetic fortunte telling tricks. and we played on. FOR FOUR HOURS OMG..... then i meant cher li on the way to the toilet, she said the trumpets have yet to hoot a single note for that period of time. lol. thank goodness we are in the store room to do whatever we want. in the end we almost grew sian of cards...

then choon boon came in to tell us that we are going to proceed on to music makers. ok lor then we came out. then in the end leng spent another 10-20min tuning the first 4 notes from the brasses. sian out. bleargh..

rumours say that college is going to play either symphoic overture or golden festivle for syf next yr. omg symphoic overture. its darn nice, but of course darn difficult too.. and theres a harp part, whos gonna play that man. and IF we are REALLY going to do this piece, when on earth are we starting to prac man. its like DECEMBER le.... syf is like arnd april.... good luck man.. and set piece not practised yet. woots.

and i finally took my cough medicine after coughing for 1 month hopping that the body immune system will cure it, but obviously it didnt work well. partly thx to the hollering i gave my juniors earlier this hol. but now i just leave them alone. i think im doing so... am i?

and im having weird relationship problems (random)

it really depends if one wants the hurtful truth or the deceiving white lies....

my room!

i more or less settled on who my designer will be. he just came up today to share with us his proposals and we had quite a long dicsusison on the room's furniture orientation, colour, wood grains pattern, materials, type of glass to be used etc. he suggested that i shld repaint my room to something of white shades so as to fully obtian the Zen concept, or the contemporary Zen concept rather. budden i just painted my room last yr end. so still contemplating over if the wall shld be repainted. so excited abt the change, its going to be a totally new look, and refreshing view.

meanwhile, im back to my maths, doing alot of read ups, like curry's paradox and the 4 colour theorem. and im doing past yr's olympiad qns so as to practise for the MAP selection test. not like im going for MAP eventually, as there is the requirement of a H2 phys in your subject combi which i totally am not going to take. im just taking the test for the fun of it, and doing the olympiad qns are good time killers. and brian killers.

meanwhile's meanwhile, im working on a post that is really really long since saturday. it shld be done soon

prove that 0.99999999999..... = 1

band chalet..

well i wasnt able to attend the previous one during june earlier this yr cos i went for the ANU attachment in australia, hence i sorta make myself go.

apparently alot of other grps also went this time, including the St. Johns and ge wei who went for some pri sch gathering (ya thx for calling me at 4AM IN THE MORNING).

too bad jh and bangky went to ching cheng chong land and are unable to join us this time. and 041 aint intersted, making me the only perc this time.

i cant believe i got back to games. the last time i got addicted was during the nov-dec period when i was in sec2. ever since then i never touched games or got interested. i mean "burnout" is just so... destructive! something you dont get to see and do everyday! and i spent $90 on arcade, not inclusive of the other $40 spent by jx. wow games.

and we went night cycling. and by night cycling i meant by starting at 12.30 and reaching back at 3.30. there was no destination, just cycling along the road. but it was fun regardless, it was cooling and... peaceful.

meanwhile, yingzhi was like the first ever person to ask me for tix for the concert. so touched. and he asked for FOUR at a go. omg, there still are ppl who appreciated non-lyrical music. and at the same time i got hooked onto more music pieces apart from those from new sounds in brass 2006. nothing much, just a random comment.

wow i blogged.

New Sounds in Brass 2006!

my fren just got back from japan, and he bought back New Sounds in Brass 2006 by Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestral. i cant belive he managed to find it! i was just passing a causual remark to him to look out for it and he really bought it back! thanks alot yicheng! really appreciated!

now get jealous people, i have jap graf XI, muhahaha and american graf XVI. totally love the CD. the songs are nice, the cover is nice, almost everything is nice abt it, other than the fact that everything is also in japanese and i dont regconise those kanji...

and today's sectionals is a flop and i dont wish to talk abt it when im gloating over the fact that i have the EXCLUSIVE jap graf. i know its just a matter of time that everyone will have it, but just let me savour this feeling can?

ya, my fault again

my sis is going to take some funny english exam tmr and i just asked her to do one more set of paper b4 she goes to sleep. and omg she finsihed 30mins b4 time. not like she is good thats why shes 'fast', she most prob just want to get it done and over with. anyway, i marked for her, and she failed -.-. not like its SUPER DIFFICULT. in fact, i erased away some of her previous work and make her do again. mistakes she made in the past, she repeated again. worse still, some that she used to be correct now make mistake...

im very pissed already la... few days ago i went out and didnt come back home to do revision with her and my aunt was screaming my heads off the moment i step home. but the work i left her to do like 2 days ago was not even done! shes not even the slightest bit interested in her work why shld i bother? and its SHE who is taking the exam, not me. so if she needs any bloody help it shld be HER approaching ME. but she gives the usual excuse that she dunno how to do, therefore its undone etc... and she always crap say she 'will do her best' when i doubt she really knows what it means. i mean she gets pissed off when we told her to do work instead of watching TV when her exam is nearing, she gets pissed when we tear away the answer sheet etc... and she claims she is 'very stressed'. omg she does nothing but eats and sleeps and watch TV, and she will not do her work until someone tells her to. and shes taking ONLY ONE PAPER... she shld start to be more responsible with her own life. i mean shes 18 yrs old and shes still so dependent on others?

from the way she does her work i know that shes going to fail her exam tmr. it really takes a miracle for her to pass, lest to say good grades.

its just so not worth it feeling rejected and sad over some chocolate bar....

Wednesday, November 29, 2006

well.. a years coming to a close again. and the last time i blogged.. was almost one year ago =) not like anyone views my blog anyway. just jotting down things that is worth remembering every now and then

sometimes i have alot of plans to write something in my blog, but when i turn on the laptop i start doing other things like arranging my music or reading up on the internet and trying to clear space outta my pathetic C drive that becomes full out of no reasons...

anywayz that aside. now that im pretty *sian, im blogging. whatever. (* there is a difference btw sian and bored. bored is when you have nothing to do and you feel empty. sian is when you have something to do but you dont feel like doing it and hence feel empty)

just came back from china, if you consider like... 2 weeks ago recent? afterwhich is band...band... and more band... which more or less equates to stress...frustration...want-to-kill-people-ness occastionally.. theproliferation of such negative emotion is largely due to too large a concentration of juniors who a) wouldnt learn b) try to learn but never get it right c) dont turn up d) are too opiniated e) are really lame f) likes to drown himself in self sorrow g) wouldnt try new things h) never practises until he is required to play i) dont have initiative j) who pissed off the percussion tutor recently [add on to un-exhaustive list] its ridiculous how they managed to just piss off dennis sim recently.. and i thought they would only be able to do that to seniors cos they dont have the 'adult authority' seems that they just want to prove me wrong as always..

other people laugh at me... non band people say "why you still go for band". other band people say "why you still bother about them" sometimes i wonder too..i mean.. usually i just end up getting myself frustrated and angry. when things go wrong, i get blamed. not like when something is done right i get credited or anything. i dont ask for credit, since im used to a) being not credited/acknowledged and b) other people stealing credit from me. i just dont want to be accused for not doing anything. so why do i still bother about that rotting section that i always want to improve and hope that it grows? well, as usual, when i cannot answer a question, i practise self-deception. the official step down date is 31 Dec 2006. and im a person of principle and i adhere strictly to the step down date. thats all. simple. if the juniors dont like my presence, too bad, im just doing my job, like it or not. everytime when i see jh on the verge of giving up, or rather when he gives up, i tell myself i cannot be like him. cos i have a duty, a responsibility that i must carry on till everything done. i will only leave, when they are mature enough, independent enough, which i hope they can acheive by 31 Dec 2006, though i very much doubt it. i will still wash my hands off when the time comes, perhaps the 'new generation' of SL can handle them better. thats one reason why i still have not passed down the sticks of leadership to wil yet. just cannot trust them.

whatever away from these crap.. im changing furniture soon. the set of furniture in my room is like 10 yrs old?? i used it since i was a kid... so im going to empty out my room and change to some new furniture which is totally like modern concept, zen design, yea! sliding wardrobe, hydrolic bed etc... and one of my potential interior designer's name is 'best'. its kinda creative isnt it? 'hi im Best, THE best'. ha

this is practically the first post of the year. first (and maybe last? god knows when will be the next time i blog anyway)
