void decks

Chinese uses them for funerals. Malays use them for wedding, different culture eh?

Mum brought us to a Malay wedding today. its supposed to be some immediate relative of her collegue whos getting married. and of course, its at a void deck. its the 1st Malay wedding i ever gone to, so its a refreshing experience.

A few observations:
1. the staff (waiters of the food delivery company) are dressed in purple
2. the father and mother of both sides are to sit in a row in the front and let relatives and guests to kiss their hand to grant forgiveness while the rest of the guests eat the tables
3. there is no pork, which is a good thing for me
4. Malays are very traditional ppl
5. they provide live, free kara-ok service where anyone can go up to sing anytime. now we know where our singapore idols get their practices from. (but honestly they sang quite and were very spontaneous, though i dont understand a single word)

and yesterday, mum brought us to yet another collegue's gathering. its another malay family's. apparently, this collegue is going to iran, if im not wrong, for the annual muslim mass worship thing. not sure whats the technical term called, but in chinese, its called 朝拜. its a grueling journey to the holy place to cleanse their sins and to ask for forgiveness and to attain wisdom. its really amazing how much such muslim devotees will do. they are really nice ppl. i personally like malays cos they are easy-going and nice. i had a malay neighbour who just moved away, which was really sad. they are very nice, i rmbed how we looked after each other's house when we go over seas, how we give them ang baos during chinese new yr and how they offer us traditional food as well. and they moved away. but i saw them recently along orchard road, at the bus stop, while i was on the bus though-.- i really wished i could say 'hi'..

i wonder what else are void decks for...
